This report highlights the findings of 2014-2016 research into the lives of almost 3000 captive elephants used in tourist venues across Asia. A total of 220 venues in Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Nepal and Sri Lanka, and India were surveyed. The research shows that 3 out of 4 elephants are living in poor and unacceptable conditions. The report follows the report ‘Wildlife on a tight rope’ – World Animal Protection’s first survey in 2010 on captive elephants in Thailand.
